Director of the Shirley Chisholm Project on Brooklyn Women’s Activism
On Sunday, Dr. Zinga Fraser and Representative Barbara Lee (D-CA) will engage in a dialogue on the life and legacy of Shirley Chisholm. Their discussion will be part of a special episode of “Sunday Brunch With Higher Heights” to commemorate International Women’s Day.
Congresswoman Barbara Lee is a leading voice in the progressive wing of the House Democrats and former chair of the Congressional Black Caucus. She began her life of political activism as a campaigner in Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm’s 1972 presidential campaign. In 1998, she became the Representative for California’s 9th Congressional district. Dr. Zinga A. Fraser is the Director of the Chisholm Project, expert on Shirley Chisholm and Black Women’s Congressional Politics as well as a former congressional aide on Capitol Hill. Furthermore, she is Assistant Professor of Africana Studies and Women’s and Gender Studies at Brooklyn College CUNY.
Other guests in Sunday’s program will be: Tracy Sturdivant (President of The League); Adrianne Shropshire (Founder of Black PAC); Judith Browne Dianis (Executive Director of the Advancement Project); Fatima Ross Graves (President & CEO of the National Women’s Law Center); and Prof. Sophia A. Nelson (Award-Winning Author and Journalist).
